About Audrey Dijeau

I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Astronomy at New Mexico State University researching galaxies in the nearby universe and their immediate environments, investigating the activity of the black holes at their centers, and comparing them with their more distant counterparts to understand their evolution. I received my Master of Science in Astronomy in December 2023.I have been a Graduate Teaching Assistant at NMSU since 2019, serving as the instructor for undergraduate astronomy lab classes. I am currently the Laboratory Head TA for the Department of Astronomy at NMSU. I initiated and coordinated a student led movement at NMSU advocating for the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities, working as a community leader to build relationships with university administrators and working with other units on campus to create the Asian and Pacific Islander Program. I have worked as a Graduate Assistant for the NMSU Borderlands and Ethnic Studies department, researching Asian American and Pacific Islander history with a focus on Chinese Americans in Southern New Mexico and the borderlands and creating course materials aligned with the New Mexico Public Education Department's Social Studies Standards for K-12 students.I completed my Master of Science in Physics with concentration in Astronomy at San Francisco State University, receiving my degree in August 2019. My thesis project was the commissioning of a Shelyak Instruments Littrow High Resolution Spectrograph (Lhires III) for use on the Leuschner Telescope in Lafayette, California. Additionally, I was an instructor for Astronomy 116, an introductory astronomy lab course at SFSU.I completed my Bachelors Degree in Physics with a concentration in Astrophysics and a minor in Music at SFSU in May 2017. I was a founding member and later the President of the Women in Physics and Astronomy club at SFSU.I have worked with telescopes since 2008. I have been PI on two programs using the Astrophysical Research Consortium 3.5-meter Telescope at Apache Point Observatory. I have operated telescopes in an educational setting at New Mexico State University and San Francisco State University. I have also been a Volunteer Telescope Operator at Chabot Space and Science Center, where I operated telescopes for public viewing and I trained newer volunteers.I have experience at two planetariums: The Charles F. Hagar Planetarium located at San Francisco State University, which uses a traditional projector, and the Chabot College Planetarium, which uses a digital projector.
