I am a Battlefield Ambassador, a volunteer historic interpreter, and a crew member of Antietam National Battlefield Park's artillery demonstration unit.

Fine artist painting in oil and watercolors with a special love for landscape. Lately my paintings have an American Civil War theme.

Historical Interpreter, representing a Civil War soldier or member of an artillery detachment for infantry and artillery demonstrations at South Mountain Battlefield or for MPS outreach programs at other state and national parks. Maryland State Park Service Certified Historic Weapons Safety Officer, valid 2017-2019.

Drafted several successful grant proposals and applications for the museum, created PowerPoint presentations and unframed and prepared artwork for examination by conservators.

Docent at Pry House Field Hospital Museum. As a docent, I presented interpretive talks on Civil War medicine, Civil War soldier’s life, and woman soldiers in the Civil War for adult and children audiences at Pry House, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine Museum in Frederick, Maryland, at Antietam National Battlefield Park and the Clara Barton Missing Soldier's Office Museum in Washington, DC.• Conducted historical research for the National Museum of Civil War Medicine’s subject index database.• Documented, cataloged, and wrote catalog entries for a temporary loan exhibit of Maryland Civil War veterans’ artifacts and entered catalog information into museum’s database.

Team member in a three-year IMLS grant project for the Washington Museum of Fine Arts to inventory, catalog, and photograph the entire museum collection.

•Researched and cataloged all western medieval art objects on permanent exhibition at the Walters Art Museum.•Verified and updated all bibliographic information on these medieval objects. •Entered all collection and bibliographic information into the museum’s TMS database and website. •Designed a wiki-based website to promote public access and discussion of works in the Walters Art Museum (http://www.ascantell.com).•In collaboration with the Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Fellow, designed and installed a rotation exhibit of medieval metalwork, ivories, and textiles, and supervised an intern to write exhibit didactics. •Assisted in researching and mounting a focus show, The Special Dead:The Medieval Cult of the Saints, August 2, 2008-January 18, 2009. •In collaboration with the Division of Conservation and Technical Research, assisted in the creation of an interactive Pachyderm web site documenting the technical study of the Saint Amandus Shrine.•Addressed questions from scholars and the public regarding western medieval objects in the Walters Art Museum.•Hosted visiting scholars and supervised the handling of artwork during visits. •Researched an early thirteenth-century Limoges enamel cross terminal (Walters Art Museum, acc. no. 44.22) made for the Abbey of Grandmont, publication forthcoming.

•Provided general office management, budgeting, and accounting for a family-owned engineering consulting business.

•Led two weekly lecture/discussion groups to accompany lecture classes given by faculty. •Developed and conducted discussion groups, quizzes, exams and written assignments. •Responsible for grading all student work and encouraging students to engage with art and understand its context in history.
