August Gering is a senior editor/writer in RTI’s Center for Publishing and Production, where he serves as the point of contact for more than 40 staff members. Mr. Gering also serves as editorial and production task lead for the Technical Analytic Support Services (TASS) Task Order (TO) 13: Support for Production of Analytical Products for the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics, National Science Foundation (NCSES/NSF) Science and Engineering Indicators (SEI), Survey of Earned Doctorates Digest, and Diversity and STEM: Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities reports, continuing roles he held for TASS TO 2 and possessing federal security clearance as an NCSES/NSF contractor. He directs a staff of editors, publications specialists, and 508 compliance specialists and leverages his knowledge of NCSES/NSF’s Style Manual, editorial and production practices, and SharePoint and Content Management Systems to fulfill deliverable requirements. Largely through Mr. Gering’s editorial and coordinating efforts on NCSES/NSF tasks since 2008, RTI won the multimillion-dollar SEI project award in 2013; he served as project director, assistant project director, and lead editor for the project. After completion of the 2014 and 2016 editions of SEI, he spearheaded the effort to win a project extension for the 2018–22 reports and coauthored and reviewed proposals that won the TASS TO 2 (SEI 2024) and TO 13 (SEI 2026) awards. Mr. Gering has more than 25 years of experience editing, proofreading, and coordinating the production of various publications, including technical reports, proposals, grants, books, and journal articles, and over 10 years of experience as an editorial manager, project director, and task leader, generating annual budgets, providing task budget estimates, participating in proposal capture teams, writing and reviewing proposal sections, creating a project Quality Management Plan, and providing feedback on staff performance. He edits documents for clarity, grammar, spelling, and consistency of format and style, using multiple style guides to ensure conformity with RTI, government, and other relevant standards. Mr. Gering also coordinates the work of other editorial, document preparation, graphics, and web development personnel to ensure timely delivery of high-quality materials. He participates in the hiring process for editorial staff and trained senior- and junior-level editors for various projects, creates training materials for these editors, and provides feedback on their work.
