Geospatial Analyst Intern
Carried out pilot study of suitable sites for low-conflict solar installations for the Long Island Solar Roadmap Project for the Town of Riverhead, New York. These sites included those for ground-mounted solar arrays, carport solar in parking lots, and rooftop solar arrays. Carrying out this work included developing methodology for creating and then helping to build the dataset of all parking lots in Suffolk County, NY. Additionally, I used Google Earth Engine to create a reproducible script to classify remote sensing imagery by land cover class for the purpose of identifying suitable sites for ground-mounted solar. These layers including already available building footprint data were then processed to calculate and then graphically display the total estimated solar generation capacity of land parcels in the Town of Riverhead, NY in ArcGIS Online for feedback from project consortium members consisting of local and regional stakeholders.
