In the biomedical engineering department, under associate director Dr. Kenneth Gustafson’s guidance, I built a force transducer to measure force exerted on the water by a swimmers strokes, sat in on abdominal and urinary electrotherapy at a Veteran’s Hospital, observed blood perfusion and brain removal, and sat in on the insertion of electrodes into the motor cortex of mice. Later in the project, I was able to stand in and observe electrode insertion surgery and electrotherapy with the goal of restoring lower limb function in felines.
