Lab Manager
As a Lab Manager for the CMC Policy Lab, I worked on two extensive research projects. The first project was a continuation of our election law changes research for the American Enterprise Institute. For this project I used STATA to clean and restructure individual-level administrative data containing millions of entries. Over the summer session, I managed a team of three research fellows working on a state election law changes project. I constructed and coded a dataset containing all election law changes from 2011-2021 in all 50 states and wrote a detailed coding protocol. I used STATA to analyze the intercoder validity of our team’s coding of election law changes. I also wrote a memo outlining the work accomplished this summer and how the next group of research fellows can build on what we started. The second project examined transportation equity for the State Smart Transportation Initiative. My co-lab manager and I conducted transportation equity research for the State Smart Transportation Initiative by analyzing responses to the US Department of Transportation’s Request for Information on policies that increase transportation equity. We wrote a comprehensive literature review outlining previous research on transportation equity. We also wrote a detailed memo outlining the best equity practices implemented by State Departments of Transportation. Our memo was just published on the State Smart Transportation Initiative website. I facilitated communication with over fifteen county elections offices to obtain individual voting histories and registered voter lists. I managed public records requests as well as twelve large data sets each containing over a million entries. My partner and I used STATA to standardize the variables in each data set because ever county had different variable names and organization. We created a codebook that identified the standardized variables and tracked changes made to original data. I wrote a detailed appendix outlining project goals as well as organized accounts of the information received and how it will be used in our analysis. Show less
Podcaster
My classmate and I created a podcast called "The Future is Female: Women in International Relations" about female global leadership where we interview experts about female leaders, female representation in government, women in conflict resolution, and gender equality.
Research Assistant
I was a research assistant for Professor Shanna Rose while she conducted research for her upcoming book on minimum wage legislation. My research focused specifically on state legislative activity in response to federal inaction. I worked collecting data, writing literature reviews, and summarizing federal legislation patterns. This experience was extremely influential and I gained a great understanding of what goes into academic research.
