A former Member/Commissioner of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) during 2014-2019. Served as the first Director General when enforcement of Competition law started in India in 2009. Served in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India as Director General, PPAC before joining CCI as Member. Worked many years as Director of WTO related issues in the Department of Commerce, Government of India and looked after Competition Policy, Investment, Transparency in Government Procurement, Agreements on Sanitary and Phyto Sanitary Measures (SPS), Technical barriers to Trade (TBT), besides being in charge of Coordination of multilateral trade issues in the Trade Policy Division (TPD) of the Department of Commerce.Participated in the Inter-governmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Competition Policy and Law of UNCTAD for many years and was elected its Vice President in 2003. Also participated in the process of evolution of UNCITRAL Model Law on Competition and contributed to it substantively.Supported the Indian Government Think Tank, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) as Consultant, on Sustainable Investment, Competition Policy, Digital economy, Just and Fair Energy Transition, Path to Net Zero etc. for a period of three years.Also worked in the erstwhile India Investment Centre (IIC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Investment Promotion Office in Paris, on cross border flow of Investment and technology transfer, for over 6 years. Served as Lead International Consultant, and prepared draft Investment and Industrial policies for the Nepal government in 2002. I headed the Transport (Air, Rail, Shipping, National Highways), and Science and Technology Unit of the Project Appraisal and Management Division (PPAC) of the erstwhile Planning Commission during 2004-09. I also carried out the financial, social and economic appraisal of the Delhi Metro Project for consideration by the Public Investment Board (PIB) and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in 1997.Served in three Nationalized Banks (State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank (formerly New Bank of India) and the Indian Bank). during the initial years of my career.
