As a student supervisor at Hillenbrand Dining Court, I have learned that every person's role makes a difference. I give other students their roles for the shift based on what the higher-ups need for the day. After assigning everyone their roles, I either fill in a role that hasn't yet been filled or take care of everything behind the scenes. Usually, that includes working inside the dish room; organizing silverware, stocking the dish machine, placing things back after they've dried, etc. Every so often a student will ask for help if don't know what to do or ask a question about something they don't have the answer for. I help out the students first because it's important that they learn on the job so they gain the experience they need to continue serving customers. I enjoy being a student supervisor because it's revealed to me the significance of every role; when someone is missing it makes everything much more difficult because it slows everyone else down.

During my internship, I shadowed a team of CNC machinists and discovered more about each person's role in that station. It was fun working with my co-workers and I learned a lot through the internship. Some of the different skills I picked up include engraving, polishing, organizing tools, and shot-blasting. It was a meaningful experience when I got to run the shot-blast machine by myself performing work and completing orders like any other employee. It was the best experience for a first job I could have ever asked for.
