Hi! I’m Austen. A curious and data-driven Astrophysicist 🖖! I enjoy developing creative solutions to complex problems utilising quantitative, computational and scientific methods. I am open to insight event days and short 3-month internship opportunities during Summer 2025.I'm working as a postgraduate researcher (PhD student) at the University of Southampton on the physics and computational modelling of accretion disk winds. My starting aim is to greatly improve the run-time of the state-of-the-art radiative transfer modelling code, 'PYTHON' (written in C), by using emulator base inference. The emulator's design intends to mimic complex and imperfect astrophysical models. This work utilises a mixture of statistical methods to design a flexible likelihood framework for higher uncertainty quantification beyond the ability of neural networks, from principal component analysis decomposition to convolving global and local Gaussian process kernels.I'm a master's graduate with strong first-class honours from the University of Southampton. I demonstrated that I am a focused fast-paced learner with excellent written communication, presentation and organisational skills. As a top 6 student, I qualified for Southampton's Flagship 'Astrophysics with a Year of Research' program where I researched time series (light curve) variability patterns from Blackhole accretion. I helped develop software data analysis tools, coded in IDL and Python, by applying Bayesian machine learning and linear regression techniques.Learning and applying my skillset towards the development of accelerated computing, ML, DL and AI for real-world problems is a truly exciting field. Beyond physics, my hobbies lie in Architecture, Real Estate and quantitative finance. I enjoy dedicated towards learning and developing projects such as my quantitative trading program, 'Silvanus'. This is the development of a stock visualisation program with hypothesis backtesting facilities, an API for pulling real-time stock information and automated trading algorithms. ʕノ•ᴥ•ʔノ︵ 📈Feel free to contact me!
