I am Austin Couch, a 4th-year student at RIT pursuing a Computer Science degree at RIT. After saving costs by taking a great deal of my general credits back home in Michigan, I have spent years at RIT honing my skills in Computer Science to ready myself for the Tech and Software Development sectors!I began taking Computer Science courses in 2018 and have never looked back! Drawn by the intoxication of problem-solving, I fell in love with using computer systems to solve human problems. I am currently pursuing an Immersion (RIT-speak for a light specialization) in the field of Science, Technology, and Society as I am enthralled in the way these ideas interact and influence one another. Ever-interested in this crossover, I am also pursuing a minor in RIT's competitive Game Design and Development program to complement my Major in Computer Science in a more fun-focused light while still utilizing my core critical-thinking skills as often as possible. As I round out my final years at RIT, I have become increasingly fascinated with the history of computing and its struggle with ethics. I plan to further investigate these ideas in a independent study of my design based in Computational Epistemology with the guidance of Professor Jeremy Brown!Having struggled with stress and anxiety as many of us have in this treacherous world, I am particularly interested in the processes through which many tedious or difficult roadblocks throughout our lives have been alleviated by the light helping hand of a caring friend or family member. These slight adjustments provided by another point of view or new framing often have the potential to fill in missing puzzle pieces or recalibrate blinders that make previously obscured solutions pop! I love taking these principles into my professional work and theory while keeping to my belief that effective communication is the keystone to a productive team! I am comfortable with a few languages, having jumped back and forth throughout my schooling thus far, these include Java, Python, C# (including Unity scripting), C, and Rust. I also have basic skills in HTML5 and CSS as well as ties to CAD software experience back in high school with NX and Autodesk Inventor. I am comfortable working with all of these and I intend to further my efficacy with them through practice in the field. I am also open to learning new languages as I am fascinated by the way programming languages and software can differ so greatly in fundamental values in the name of specialization!
