Member of a well-managed controls team in Capital One’s Financial Services (FS) Tech LOB. Plays a critical role in overseeing the following workstreams that drive compliance on a continuous basis across the division: - Utilizes Tableau and other reporting dashboards to generate proactive and past-due metrics for +100 controls that are leveraged by process managers and senior leadership to prioritize resources. Has experience with SnowFlake and SQL. - Serves as an audit liaison for FS Tech to guide engineers and application teams through various audits. This includes formal communication to challenge potential issues/findings. - Helps +5 plus applications that are not centrally managed to perform identity and access management (IAM) controls monthly to capture potential movers, leavers, and new users. Executes an annual control for FS Tech that receives extreme scrutiny from external regulators. Dispositions 50+ applications that have the potential to store/handle highly sensitive human data (e.g., SSN, Bank Accounts, etc.). - Creates work papers for each application that captures the safeguards and mitigating factors that are in place to reduce the risk of exposure. This includes dataflows that demonstrate how the data is being encrypted, masked, and/or tokenized.

By having exposure to both the GPS and Commercial sectors, Mr. Hoff is able to take the strengths and success factors from different clients to create synergies on future endeavors. These engagements provided him with the opportunity to see the different technologies and tool sets that are being by government agencies versus commercial organizations. Some of the tools Mr. Hoff gained exposure to include, but are not limited to: the IT Service Management (ITSM) tool ServiceNow, the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tool RSA Archer, the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tool Splunk and application monitoring tools such as FireEye Security Stack (NX, FX, EX, and HX), Datadog and LogicMonitor. Mr. Hoff assisted in the execution of the FISMA assessment for the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Mr. Hoff was responsible for being one of the primary points of contacts (POC) with the OIG contracting officer's representatives (COR) and Government POC on audit objectives. Mr. Hoff participated in the annual FY 2019 – FY 2020 FISMA evaluations. He worked with the OIG to update procedures to be performed to reflect new DHS and OIG evaluation guidance. Further, Mr. Hoff worked with various HHS components to tailor work programs to evaluate the cyber program being implemented by the Department. HHS is a highly federated government agency with 11 operating divisions that all have unique missions. The overall results of these assessments have helped provide HHS with forward-looking recommendations for their cybersecurity program in the function areas of identify, protect, detect, respond and recover. During this assessments Mr. Hoff gained a particular interest in the domain areas of risk management, information security continuous monitoring (ISCM), and incident response. Lastly, Mr. Hoff received experience in leveraging NIST SP 800-53 guidance to evaluate an agency’s cybersecurity.

Mr. Hoff's primary assignments include the development and oversight of Service Organization Controls (SOC) 1 and 2 reports, NIST 800-53 assessments along with conducting Federal Information Security Moderation Act 2014 (FISMA) assessments. Mr. Hoff assisted in the execution of three SOC1 Type II reports for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), which scoped in their Automated Time Attendance and Production System (ATAAPS), Hosting Services, and milCloud 2.0 solution which is an integrated suite of cloud-based infrastructure services. Mr. Hoff was responsible for the development of test plans to effectively assess the design and operation of the client’s internal controls. Due to DISA's complex environment, the testing methodology was required to cover multiple operating systems (OS) such as Windows, Unix, Linux and Mainframe. The audit also covered the evaluation of physical controls associated to datacenters located in different geographical locations. Additionally, during the audit, Mr. Hoff was responsible for hosting walkthrough meetings with the client’s subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand their internal processes and to gather the required evidence needed to perform testing procedures. Lastly, Mr. Hoff also played a key role in identifying and communicating findings to the DISA management and the Office of Inspector Generals (OIG). The primary commercial engagement Mr. Hoff supports is Ellucian which is a company that develops software and services that higher education institutions use to deliver a modern, integrated experience in the cloud. The SOC 1 Type II and SOC2 Type II report Mr. Hoff assists in producing for Ellucian covers their cloud-based deployment models such as Managed Cloud and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Mr. Hoff was responsible for teaching the new staff members the audit methodology being used and delegating work to members of EY’s offshore Global Delivery Services.

As a Business Analyst in the Momentum® Apprenticeship program (MAP), Austin became proficient in his use of Momentum® and learned how its various functions work together to meet CGI client’s needs.Austin focused on defect testing, analyzing support requests and fine-tuning his communication and SQL skills. As part of his responsibilities, he applied testing processes and best practices. As a result, he ensured that he has properly validated issues in the baseline software before sending them to development and thoroughly tested all solutions to ensure support request resolutions were completed and accurate.Austin also enhanced his Momentum® skills by working through various training courses focused on different areas of the system, including Budget, Automated Disbursements, Credit Card, Workflow, General Ledger, Security, SQL, and Batch Jobs. He also researched a topic that benefited his peers, and delivered a presentation on the subject matter to enhance his presentation skills as well as his knowledge. After the training period, Austin worked on the General Services Administration (GSA) client team to facilitate their transition from Momentum 7.3 to 7.5. Austin primarily worked within the Budget Execution, General Ledger, and Credit Card modules of their Federal ERP system. He communicated professionally and effectively with the client to ensure that CGI met all the requirements proposed by the client. He was also responsible for documenting test scenarios for new processes or existing defects in the system. Austin’s next engagement was with the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) client team. While on this team Austin focused on updating configuration guides and test script documents to map out new functionalities the client had requested. Also with preparing documents for upgrade deliverables Austin also conducted Regression and Degradation Testing to ensure the upgraded software was functioning correctly.

Austin worked as an Intern in the OCIO (Office of Chief Information Officer) at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, VA. During his internship, Austin was responsible for gathering tremendous amounts of IT data about the center’s organizational spending and planning. This information spanned multiple years. He complied the data into dynamic spreadsheets that would allow our team members to easily update them in the future with additional IT spending information. He then used that data to create informative PowerPoint presentations that visually compared planned versus actual budget spending. Austin also played a key role in analyzing and compiling IT budget formulation data for NASA’s annual IT reporting to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Austin was instrumental in the evaluation of over 130 IT investments across LaRC and aligning the investments into the reporting structure required by OMB. He was able to learn the government-wide capital planning system and assist in entering the data to meet last year’s deadline.

As a Project Manager at Custom Landscape Creations Austin communicated face-to-face with clients to establish clear scope requirements for their desired projects. After understanding the conditions of the project Austin would prepare cost estimates that ranged from $10,000 to $35,000 that clearly outlined the expenses that the customer would incur throughout the project. On-site the he acted as a project manager to ensure tasks were completed efficiently and on time. This was accomplished by his enthusiasm to offer assistance with any task that was causing issues. Lastly, Austin had to maintain strong connections with outside suppliers so deliveries would be on-time. Maintaining the connections taught Austin to have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

As an Engineer Assistant at Davis Interiors Austin worked directly with the shop manager to design metal equipment for naval ships. He worked on a production team that managed multiple projects with different scopes and requirements. To reach deadlines Austin and his team needed to utilize lean production to determine where time and materials were being wasted. Once areas of improvement were located Austin was in charge of developing an alternative process that increased production rates. In addition to learning about workflow procedures Austin also gained experience in using large machinery to cut, bend, and fabricate unique metal parts.
