Student Archaeological Field Supervisor
• 10-week archaeological field course: five weeks as part of a team of master’s students excavating a hill-fort on Gotland. For the following five weeks, the master’s students supervised groups of 4-5 undergraduate students during excavations of stone-settings at an Iron Age grave field on Gotland.• Instructed undergraduate students on excavation tool usage, excavation methodologies and strategies, and helped them develop their competence in the processes of stratigraphic, contextual excavation and rigorous digital documentation. Demonstrated plan and profile drawing techniques for students as well as section-cutting post-holes for profile documentation.• Further honed personal excavation skills, and received training on the following: total station mapping of artifacts and features with point-objects or polygons; the basics of drone photography and its applications for archaeological and geological mapping; and 3D modeling of excavation trenches through layering of multiple high-resolution photographs.
