Managing the finance side of over $200 million in government contracts is definitely a high stress/high reward position. I made many friends and had many mentors over there at L3Harris. I generally loved the work, and my Excel skills were certainly in great demand across the company, but I did feel as though I was not being utilized to my full potential, so I had to move on... After I stayed an extra five months to give the company time to find a replacement. Directly after receiving my degree, I did find it difficult to prove that I already had experience in finance. Luckily for me, Robert Half stepped in and gave me the pleasure of contracting me out to Golden Gate Highway and Transit District as a Budget Principle. They had a vital employee transitioning into retirement, so I bridged the gap, learned his work/function, and wrote no less than ten standard operating procedures along with analytics plus suggestions for process improvement.

I was always blown away by the finance analysts with whom I worked that taught not only the business owners much, but me as well. This particular experience inspired me to go back to college after having worked with 50 different clients across California.

Although there is certainly some irony there, I did flourish as a soldier, won various awards (to include "Soldier of the Battlefield"), and even earned the prestige of a battlefield promotion. Before leaving, I trained the next generation of intel soldiers at Goodfellow AFB. This entire saga was simultaneously the most hardship ridden, yet most gratifying time of my adult life. Show less
