About Dave Cortez

Organized fossil fuel money runs Texas. Polluters fund the politicians who sow division and pit neighbors against each other, all while they gerrymander our electoral maps, fail to fix our grid, and attack reproductive rights. To survive the climate crisis and build a system that serves people and not big corporations, we must organize locally to dismantle racism, win progressive policy, and build long-lasting community based power. For 18 years I've served different roles, paid and unpaid, in the broader environmental community in Texas. I'm Frontera born, raised and trained, and my heart and skills are anchored in community and grassroots organizing. All my years of service in the movement have been here in Texas. 18 years of relationships, mentorship, learning, training, and watching campaign & policy strategy play out in both piecemeal victories and Texas-sized losses. My mission is to help transform how Texas advocates campaign, lead, and organize so that we prioritize building sustainable grassroots power as much as we prioritize policy outcomes. To achieve that, we must marry the knowledge and experience of older generations with the vigor, dedication and resilience of younger Texans. For two decades, environmentalists have tried to make inroads with administrations and bureaucrats who openly value corporations and special interests over everyday working people. To win, we must abandon strategies of capitulation and negotiation and replace them with heavy investments in base building, base expansion, and leadership development so we can improve the lives of Texans at the city, county and state levels.

Listed skills include Community Organizing, Public Policy, Community Outreach, Grassroots Organizing, and 19 others.
