  • U.S. Department Of Energy (Doe)
    Thermal Mechanical Design Engineer
U.S. Department Of Energy (Doe) Jan 2022 - Dec 2023
    Uc Davis Steel
Design of Additively Manufactured Micro-Pin Array Solar Thermal Receiver Panel for sCO2 Power Cycles. • Presented work at weekly internal design review meetings and quarterly grant funding design review meetings for the U.S. DOE, EERE - SETO grant.• Designed an additively manufactured solar thermal receiver for the UC Davis Solar Thermal Energy Enhancement Laboratory (STEEL) facilities parabolic dish as a graduate student researcher (GSR) from ideation to prototype testing while working with a larger project team; High pressure and high temperature tests run on the receiver.• Used SOLIDWORKS, 3D CAD, to design the receiver meeting required GD&T. ANSYS Workbench to simulate and validate designs before printing, using Fluent (CFD) and Mechanical (FEA) modules including porous media experience. Hand calculations used for simulation starting points and regular checks for thermal and structural analysis.• Validating the design for applications with supercritical carbon dioxide and transferring heat through an array of thousands of micro-pins inside the receiver to take incoming fluid from a temperature of 500°C to 720°C at the exit to show the applicability of a design like this for power generation purposes while remaining under LMP stress limits.• Design optimized for 3D metal printing as well as welding to system level testing applications. Performed testing & maintenance on the fluid distribution and burner systems working with actuators, valves, piping, high pressure fittings, thermocouples, and data acquisition.• Used various types of insulation and radiation shielding for the receiver and test system to reduce unwanted heat loss.
  • Uc Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center
    Graduate Student Research Engineer
Uc Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center Jul 2022 - Oct 2023
    Uc Davis Wcec & Steel
Worked as a graduate student researcher while completing my thesis titled Design of Additively Manufactured Micro-Pin Array Solar Thermal Receiver Panel for sCO2 Power Cycles with more details above for the DOE funded work. This role was focused on the testing of my thesis project as well as running tests on other heat exchanger projects at the STEEL site. I also did ANSYS simulation work and prototype testing work for the WCEC PCM project that I had previously worked on as a student researcher engineer, but also ran additional experiments on a water heater project and a building air quality project. The additional projects required 3D Printing, design of custom parts, testing and data acquisition.• Worked on ongoing project at the UC Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC) testing PCM panel insulation.• Provided maintenance to scale model wall assembly test apparatus as well as helping with thermal testing and full on-site installations.• Designed custom 3D printed parts for sensor housings.• Worked on the electrical wiring of the devices and the sensors of the system for power supply distribution and data collection.• Worked with Peltier/TEC devices to heat and cool the test sample with a fluid pump loop.• Used ANSYS Fluent to simulate expected heat transfer and indoor/outdoor temperatures with a PCM wall to help validate the lab testing model as means of insulation for buildings.
  • Engineers Without Borders, Cal Poly Slo
    Project Manager, Fiji Team
Engineers Without Borders, Cal Poly Slo Jan 2019 - Dec 2020
Led and organized a team of engineering students working together on an international engineering service project.• Leading and organizing a team of 25 engineers• Planning implementation trips and ensuring the 6 sub teams are on track. Sub teams included the solar borehole pump design team, rain catchment design team, slow sand filters design team, coastal erosion team, fundraising/PR team, and cultural outreach team. • Managed remote implementations the summers of 2019 and 2020.• Write grants and reaching out to corporations for team sponsorships. Handling team finances and performing international wire transfers.• Reviewing project designs and project proposal paperwork
