About Austin Meyer
I am a physician-scientist working across several different domains. I currently work as a Pediatric and Adult Hospitalist with Baylor Scott and White, where I provide care to adult and pediatric patients who have been admitted to Baylor Scott and White hospitals. In addition, I teach both Internal Medicine and Pediatric residents at the bedside, and I am responsible for the evidence-based medicine portion of the Pediatrics curriculum for McLane Children's Hospital. I recently worked as the Infectious Disease Medical Officer for the Infectious Disease Prevention Division of the Texas Department of State Health Services. I was formerly a faculty member at Harvard Medical School where I taught bedside medicine to medical students and BIDMC Internal Medicine residents. I am also a data scientist working with the MIGHTE lab at Northeastern University's Network Science Institute and the Harvard School of Public Health, where I construct machine learning models that produce forecasts of Dengue and Influenza outbreaks, supporting clinical trials and public health initiatives.I have a strong academic background and a passion for learning and research. I hold a PhD in Biochemistry studying Computational Biology, an MD with dual board certification in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, an MS in Analytics, an MPH in Public Health Leadership, and an MS in Biotechnology along with a BS in Physics and a BA in Philosophy.I have published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals, and I have taught statistics, epidemiology, and data analysis to residents and medical students at several institutions. I am a certified HIV specialist and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. I am interested in applying data science, statistical modeling, epidemiology, and global health to improve health outcomes and address health disparities.
