Jamalco is a joint venture between Noble Group and Clarendon Alumina Production (CAP). Jamalco is an integrated bauxite mine , alumina refinery and port. Jamalco’s bauxite mines are located in South Manchester on the Mount Oliphant Plateau and in Harmons Valley. The bauxite is trammed to the refinery by rail. The refinery is located at Halse Hall in Clarendon. The port from which alumina is shipped is located at Rocky Point also in Clarendon.

The primary function of the Sherwin plant is to extract alumina, from bauxite ore. Sherwin is an integrated refinery and port. The plant is capable of producing 1.65 million tonnes of smelter grade alumina per year. Situated on the Texas Gulf Coast, the deep water port is accessible by vessels with displacements of up to 60,000 tonnes, for incoming bauxite and outgoing alumina. Windalco comprises two alumina plants – Ewarton Works in St. Catherine and Kirkvine Works in Manchester. The company owns bauxite mines in Schwallenburgh (Ewarton) and Russell Place (Kirkvine) and farms in Manchester and St Ann. Shipments depart Jamaica from its shipping port, Port Esquivel.The combined capacities of Ewarton Works (670,000 tonnes) and Kirkvine Works (610,000 tonnes), is 1.28 million tonnes of alumina per year. Aughinish Alumina is the largest alumina refinery in Europe. The plant was built between 1978 and 1983 and had an initial rated capacity of 800,000 tonnes a year.
