Profile bio

About Austin Alleman, Ph.D.

From an exceptionally young age, I held two passions: bugs and computers. Growing up in the scrub desert of Texas, one of these things was in abundance, and one was not! Now, twenty-something years later, it is my distinct privilege to be highly skilled in both of these fields, with the benefit of a diverse worldview and cultural insight that only living and working abroad (a passion wholly unrecognized by my younger self) can facilitate.Leveraging four years of project management and informatic experience gleaned from my Bioinformatics research with the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (Germany), I have cultivated an analytical mindset driven by innovation, communication, and attention to detail. My analysis methodologies in the IT space have been shaped by an additional four years operating within an Agile environment with the Information Management unit at Playtech Estonia as Software and Business Analyst.Acting as a “Champion for the Customer”, I seek to add value and reduce waste throughout the product development lifecycle via: 1] A solution-oriented, “managing managers” style of inclusive communication aimed at prioritizing project goals and engaging both internal and external stakeholders, 2] Subject-matter expertise, with an eye towards the utilization of existing systems before embarking on novel developments, and 3] A minimum-viable-product design philosophy for larger deployments. One of the greatest hurdles I overcame within the international Business Analysis space was formulating a communication strategy effective at bringing together such a colorful mosaic of stakeholders. I am extremely privileged to have been able to cooperate with such a diverse range of cultures and personalities - indeed within the context of business analysis and regulatory compliance - and I feel that this broad worldview will be of immense value in all future endeavors going forward.I absolutely loved the experience I gained and the memories I made while living abroad. However, the desire to live and work in a warmer, sunnier climate never fully faded. With the struggles of relocation mostly past, I am ecstatic to bring my expertise and enthusiasm to the Tucson area! If you like something you see below, or just want to say 'Hi', drop me a line. I promise I won't talk about cockroach bacteria... much.

I explored the genetic basis for the transition to parasitism in Temnothorax ants. This is a drastic shift in lifestyle, involving rapid changes in gene structure, function, and expression. After the establishment of antagonistic relationships, parasites and hosts co-evolve through reciprocal adaptations, often resulting in evolutionary arms-races..
