Safety Coordinator
CurrentOver the course of the past three years at Builders FirstSource (BFS), I have taken many rolls within the Freeport Truss Manufacturing location, and beyond. BFS is involved in the design, production, and delivery of, roof trusses--and I have been involved in nearly every part of that process.Initially starting in production, I have worked many of the positions we have here, including: industrial saws, truss roofing production, floor production, jacks production/nailgun use, forklift use and coordinating with our CDL drivers. After traveling to assist in training the production crew for the Theodore, AL manufacturing plant, I received the opportunity to further my education in the truss manufacturing field.For the past year and a half, I have transitioned from a production position, to an internal one revolving around safety and administration. During this time I have worked with office staff and HR on purchasing/receiving, accounts payable, work orders, customer service, and incident reporting, before taking over full time as Safety Coordinator.As safety coordinator, not only is it my responsibility to ensure the safety of both our day shift and night shift crews, but to maintain consistent and clear communication with our production supervisors, Operations Manager, General Manager, and regional/corporate safety and management. In addition to updating our safety culture over the past 6+ months--including digitizing our physical documents and updating our safety policies--I have helped manage our audits for corporate and DOT safety.My skills in this position are heavily utilized in the fields of first aid, industry safety, crisis management, incident reporting, personnel management and clear communication to groups of 60+ individuals. Keeping our written safety programs, DOT regulations, OSHA documentation and corporate safety standards organized and easily accessible is my day-to-day life here at BFS!
