In April, I took on a new role at IBM. This new role is an expansion of my previous role working with leads and managers on respective offering teams. My responsibility is to bring common DevOps processes and tools to our core IBM cloud middleware services - Integration, API Economy, Data Gateway, Caching, Runtime, and PureApp while promoting common processes, tools, etc. in IBM Middleware.Areas include:* Common security practices and certification (FISMA, PCI, SaaS70, ISO27001)* Common deployment process to support continuous delivery to QA, DEV, Stage, Production* Micro-service model for Logging, Monitoring and Alerting* KPI metrics to for identifying efficiencies, usage, and areas for investment

During my first year with IBM, I managed and lead a global devops team, taking advantage of my systems administration skills and expertise in building redundant and scalable systems. I was able to reduce our hosting costs by 20% while growing our customer base by 25%. Worked with engineering to add new features to our product and inspired the team to build new tools to keep systems stable and robust.With Cloud, I was able to enable even more automation that was not possible with traditional IT. I not only got hands on with the technology (Linux, GIT, Jenkins, Ansible, Scripting, Ruby, PHP, Chef - most recently with NetflixOSS on scaling redundant clouds) but also worked with members of my team by encouraging them to come up with ideas, working with them to make it happen, and reflecting on all our successes and failures.

I came in during the early start-up days of Cast Iron to help build a long lasting business. Worked with a very small team, to establish stability, processes, and tools to help the company be more efficient. I was able to reduce expenses by 15-20% annually. I inspired teams to be creative, collaborate on ideas and to see it through.Note: Cast Iron Systems was acquired by IBM in 2010.

Model N was a fun start-up. Worked with a small team of folks managing and deploying anything IT ranging from hosting services, internal IT, development environments, build systems, and IT processes. In a small company, you manage and lead by example. I had the opportunity to work alone on projects to implement a network, mail system, file services, desktop/laptop images, etc. I worked with the team to push code deployments to our early foray into cloud. Managed a wiki, bug tracking system (bugzilla), source control (Perforce).I also had the opportunity to write Ruby code that would allow our developers to build and tear down a working copy of their application with their latest code. Also setup a grid of machines called a shared environment that allow developers to develop and build on any available machine.
