While awaiting my U.S. work authorization, I held a pro-bono position at ProChile, the Chilean trade promotion office in Chicago. My primary role here was to provide insight to Chilean companies on how to successfully enter and compete in the U.S. market.

I was the liaison between the department of facilities and internal and external clients. In this role, I managed all facilities-related needs and expectations of 20 clinical departments, either as an intermediary, a consultant or director. I provided expertise and partnered with departments to develop solutions within budgetary constraints. Also, I negotiated, wrote and implemented the department's first ever Service Level Agreement. Other key areas of focus were CRM, initiating new services, quality improvement, and communication.

As location manager for EW Cleaning Services I set up the housekeeping department in the then newly built Holiday Inn Amsterdam Schiphol, a 342 room property. Once this project was successfully completed within time and financial constraints, I became responsible for the contract of the company’s largest client. There I won additional business equivalent to 30% of total annual revenues by earning the trust and satisfaction of this client. My responsibilities included: managing the client relationship, managing and evaluating a multicultural team equivalent of 25 FTE, as well as ensuring proper financial handling of the various activities and managing productivity and budget.

As a location manager for GCA Cleaning Services, I managed a $4 million contract for cleaning services at Royal Dutch Jaarbeurs, a convention center with over 3 million visitors annually (comparable to McCormick Place in Chicago). Within the first year that I was responsible for this contract, I increased gross margin from 11 to 25% and subsequently maintained these profitability levels. My responsibilities included: managing the relationship with clients as well as suppliers, managing a multi-cultural team of 60 FTEs, ensuring proper financial handling of the various activities and managing productivity and budget.
