Hydroinformatics is an exciting and relative new topic within water management. It is strongly rooted in technology as it concerns the integrated use of information and communication technologies, remote sensing tools, advanced hydro modelling, optimization algorithms and decision support systems, all with the aim to optimize problem solving in water management. Interestingly enough, Hydroinformatics also has a strong societal focus: supporting managerial decisions and control actions, enhancement of social and stakeholder collaboration and uptake and dissemination of knowledge. As Consultant Hydroinformatics at the Dutch knowledge institute Deltares I’ve specialized in the application of Hydroinformatics in operational processes in water management, such as flood forecasting, water data management and control optimization. I support water authorities in the design and development of integrated systems for operational water management, thereby especially focusing on the organizational integration. In this I am supported by my urge to strive for improvement, interest in out-of-the-box perspectives and critical and reflective approach.
