Many of us know that growing up in a place where not everybody looks or thinks like you can be tough. I am no exception to this rule. As a child, I spent a lot of my time finding comfort and acceptance in my local and school libraries. The librarians were my favorite people in the world, and I could never get enough of talking to them and watching them do their work. I would always have multiple books checked out at a time, and I loved them so much that I would frequently forget to return them. My parents eventually got to the point where they had to offer me ultimatums so that I would just get my books back on time so we could avoid the fees. Needless to say, the library was a formative element of my upbringing.Although I have always been aware of the importance of the library setting to me, it took me a long time to realize that working in librarianship was something that I wanted to do myself. Now that I've figured that out, I intend to take all the steps towards becoming the sort of librarian I always looked up to as a kid. (And being surrounded by books that I don't have to remember to return doesn't sound too bad either.)
