TAP is an after school program for kids age 7-12 with mental health issues who experience emotional, behavioral, and social challenges and are at-risk for either out-of-home or out-of-school placement. It is a Justice Resource Institute Program that takes referrals from the Department of Mental Health and the Department of Children and Families. I assist in daily supervision and programming during after school hours and actively engage in day-to-day structured and unstructured activities, as well as help with life skill development and maintenance according to individualized treatment plans.I have been able to develop a rapport with students and gain experience with redirections and the incorporation of coping tools as a part of treatment. I take part in implementing both agency and other individualized behavior management practices utilizing appropriate trauma-sensitive techniques to monitor, assess and document situations.I work to cultivate a trauma-informed environment by understanding the short and long-term impacts of trauma and neglect. I also respond to the students with empathy, sensitivity, and respect, while maintaining trauma-sensitive language and approaches in all interactions.I have independently designed and facilitated group activities with the students, as well as assisted other staff who have "led the day." I am able to collaborate as a member of the therapeutic staff team. I furthermore exercise responsibilities in a professional manner and in such a way as to reinforce the TAP philosophy and program protocols. I also attend behavioral team meetings and case consultations.
