About Avery Desousa
I've spent the last five years of my professional career serving LGBTQ+ youth. In my undergrad years I served as a student leader and peer mentor to the trans, gender non-conforming, and nonbinary (TGNCNB) community on campus, before eventually moving on to social services with The Ali Forney Center, the nation's largest housing program for LGBTQ+ youth. I approach my work from a holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive lens, with an emphasis on harm reduction. Since 2021 I've branched out to LGBTQ+ health equity work with the NYS Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University's Department of Substance Use Disorders as a Project Associate for the Opioid Response Network's Sexuality and Gender Diversity workgroup. My professional philosophy: "Never stop growing."
Listed skills include Crisis Intervention, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Lgbt Rights, and 7 others.
