About Avery Marshall

I am a Caltech-educated engineer skilled in materials engineering, software engineering, and information technology. As a materials engineer, I use my circuit design and physics knowledge to develop and test power devices on novel substrates. As a software engineer, I leverage my breadth of programming experience (in Python, C/C++, SQL, Powershell, and Bash to name a few) and expertise in Linux systems to write software driven solutions for microprocessor applications. Along the way I've gotten well versed in IT support and administration. I am very comfortable troubleshooting hardware and software computer issues, deploying new machines in a corporate environment, managing Microsoft and Linux architectures (cloud/on-prem Active Directory, VM management, Exchange administration, Linux servers, etc.), and developing instructional media to promote computer literacy. Ultimately, I enjoy pushing my intellectual boundaries and learning more about the fields I'm passionate in.

    Used several dozen images of mechanically exfoliated graphene flakes (with layer thickness characterized with Raman spectroscopy) to explore techniques of automated recognition of said flakes. Methods explored included contour fitting routines, relative luminosity measurements, and supervised CNN machine learning models. GUI components were written with Python-Qt4. NumPy, SciPy, and CV2 were used for most of the analysis; Keras was used for machine learning components.
