About Avery Merton
My near future dream job is to be a script coordinator or writers assistant. My far future dream job is to be a series creator and showrunner. As someone whose stick figures turn out lumpy, I never thought I could work in animation. But my whole perspective changed when I took a clowning class junior year. We spent a day discussing how to make our bodies as cartoonish as possible. This class opened my eyes to the true power of how malleable cartoon characters are and the limitless potential for comedy in animation. I'd never felt so free creatively and knew I needed to find a way into the industry that didn't require a sketch pad. I've spent the last year as an episodic production assistant on the Patrick Star Show and have loved carrying episodes through every step of the pipeline. And I'm looking forward to finding my way into a writer's room support staff role so I can focus more intently on the storytelling side of animation production.
