Hello my name is Avery Wilkins. I'm 18 years old and I'm a currently a Freshmen at the University of Nevada Reno where I am studying to get a degree in elementary education in hopes of becoming a early education teacher. Throughout my teenage years, I've been deeply invested in the industry of child care and education, whether it be babysitting or teaching kids to swim or play other sports, I have always loved working with and positively impacting the lives of children, which drives me to continue down this path towards my future as a Elementary School Teacher. In Highschool I took three years of childhood education and care classes, as well as spending much of my free time babysitting for my family, volunteering at my local youth lacrosse team, or teaching young kids to swim at my most recent swim instructor job. As a swim instructor and youth lacrosse coach I made my own curriculum to teach kids and worked on adapting it when children need an adjustment or extra help. As well as maintaining a positive and fun environment that children love to be a part of and keeping good communication with the parents throughout the lessons. Throughout my time at these jobs I learned so many useful skills like these in working with children and their caretakers.
