About Avery Broughton
I have always found my purpose in fighting climate change and supporting community in the process, but I wasn’t always sure how. After interning with the Citizens’ Climate Lobby for two years and volunteering with other local organizations such as Philly Thrive to fight environmental racism, I knew that creating a social impact is something I had to do in my professional career. Throughout my education so far at the University of Notre Dame as a Sociology, Sustainability, and Social Entrepreneurship student, I have come to understand the social and environmental influence and responsibility that businesses and organizations hold in the climate crisis as well.This past summer I worked doing problem-solving, community-based research, and outreach for the City of South Bend through the Center for Civic Innovation. With this experience, I came to understand that consultancy was a way I could balance working with businesses and organizations to influence the lives of others and create a more sustainable world.My leadership experiences such as guiding a team to create sustainability-related programming and advocating for changes to school policy as the Director of the Department of Sustainability for Notre Dame Student Government have prepared me well to have a command of project management, problem-solving, and collaboration.
