Working under the guidance of Professor Steven W. Lewis, I researched technology and AI policy, and their relationship to China. I wrote two blog posts for the Baker Institute blog, one on state surveillance in China (2018), and one using AI to suppress protests in urban areas in China (forthcoming).

As a Software Engineering Intern at Factual I worked with cutting edge data management software and machine learning tools. My project at Factual consisted of two parts: the first was creating a dashboard for monitoring data quality; the second was testing a state of the art natural language processing model from Google Labs called BERT for web scraping and text extraction applications. I worked primarily in python (specifically Django), but also wrote hive queries and interfaced with Google Cloud Platform.

At Factual Inc. I worked as a Data Science Intern to help analyze and synthesize location, app usage, and consumer preference data. Using Pyro.ai, I trained a Variational Autoencoder to process Factual's data related to consumer tastes and preferences.

At Cardinal Blue I worked to develop internal company software to help improve the efficiency of daily company operations. Using a Django based web server backend, I helped create slack tools that enabled Cardinal Blue to more effectively review app rankings, generate content royalty reports for paid in-app content, and quickly access information about employees. Additionally, I worked with Google Data Studio, and a flask based web server backend to create a dashboard for monitoring advertising revenue, eCPM, impressions, and other financial and user related data.

The EMBRACE program is a nonprofit educational professional development group. I currently lead a team working to develop a web app infrastructure to replace their current non-automated systems. This entails:- Leading and organizing a team of software developers- Using team management software such as Slack, Asana, and Google Drive- Developing a full web app with Django- Serving in a systems administration capacity to launch an application on the web- Serving as a full stack web developer
