Avery Rios is an Associate Attorney at Blanchard & Thomas, PLLC, and practices out of the Waco office. She primarily practices in the areas of Family Law and Criminal Defense. Avery graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2021. She is an experienced legal researcher and writer and sat as the Executive Managing Editor for the Estate Planning and Community Property Law Journal. Her student comment, "Divorce Destroys the Community: An Examination of the “Texas Method” Community Property Principles Upon Divorce and its Effects on Informal Marriage", was published in Volume XII, in the Summer of 2020. Avery has also edited various legal publications, including the 2020 Volume of the Texas DWI Manual and the Heart of Justice Mitigation Handbook. Finally, Avery was the first place winner of Baylor Law's The Paper Chase Legal Writing Competition, in 2021.Avery was deeply involved in her law school community. She is a student attorney for the Caprock Regional Public Defense Clinic, the Executive Vice President of Administration for the Student Bar Association, and a Board member of the Texas Tech School of Law Board of Barristers. Avery was a first-year semi-finalist in the Board of Barristers Negotiations competition, and also participated in multiple Negotiation, Mock Trial, and Moot Court competitions.Avery is a Dean's List graduate. She received the Top Grade Award for Emerging Technologies Law and Criminal Practice Skills, and received the Distinguished Grade Award for Professional Responsibility, Legal Practice, Capital Punishment Seminar, and Defense Clinic Support Course.Avery has worked in various areas of law, including civil litigation, personal injury, insurance, family law, criminal defense, DWI defense, probate, real estate, and contracts.
