Quality Engineer Ii
Quality Engineer I
Senior Laboratory Technician
I have been trained through the end to end RT-qPCR process within an ISO 17025 accredited lab. Involving the operation of liquid handling robots for automated sample handling, magnetic based-bead RNA extraction and PCR plate preparation. My responsibilities included resuspension of frozen reagents, preparation of experimental controls, master mix, reagents for RNA extraction and PCR master mix in accordance with SOPs. I have experience using Roche light cycler software and Genedata to review and report RT-PCR data and results.I attended regular meetings to suggest and implement process improvements to make the workflow more robust and efficient as well as identify failures in testing quality as they occur.I took part in validation experimentation and environmental contamination control to introduce process improvements outside the scope of regular testing.I have been responsible for creating and updating controlled documents such as SOPs and developed process guides for work outside the scope of SARS-CoV-2 PCR assessments.I actively engage in skill enrichment opportunities including Elements of AI, Statistics foundations, R for data science and Learning SQL programming.During my time within the team, I was relied upon to train and supervise new staff in accordance with the ISO accreditation.
Sample Preparation Scientist
Working on the front line at the Cambridge Coronavirus testing centre lighthouse lab, provided with basic lab technique training for working with hazardous biologics in Biosafety hoods following biosafety level 2 guidelines and GLSP. I was also trained to operate the Laboratory information management system and was relied on to train and supervise new staff at the centre. In addition, I’ve voluntarily been fire safety trained to act as a fire warden in addition to my regular roles. The job involved unpacking Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab samples following quality checks to ensure contamination of the hood does not occur. Manually pipetting the samples into 96-deep well plate (92 samples and 4 controls). Adding a master mix to each plate using an Integra Viaflow liquid handling machine, followed by heat inactivation of the virus before RNA extraction. I have also received training to operate PCR thermocyclers for direct heat inactivation of PCR plates.
Agency Worker
I worked part-time while I was studying for my university undergrad as a Cashier, Bartender and Food preparation assistant within the hospitality industry. The role provided me with an opportunity to develop myself in a consumer-focused setting improving my Customer service and communication through interactions with customers and management, as well as decision-making and team-working through high-pressure situations and good organization. I actively engaged in skills enrichment opportunities including Food safety and hygiene, Bartending, Health and safety, Disability awareness and First aid awareness.
Project Manager
Our project's main focus was “An investigation of the fine-tuning gene expression in E.coli to advance gene therapy applications” concerning rare genetic disorders. I was responsible for creating a website that displayed our team’s achievements within the competition. I gained invaluable experience with the following programming languages; HTML, CSS, and JavaScript whilst also gaining experience using modelling software such as pymol and Blender. Moreover, this meant a large portion of the project was done with minimal supervision due to the time constraints on the deliverables. This competition furthered my time management skills and ability to learn and perform under tight deadlines while also working as part of a team. I presented the preliminary stages of the project at the 2019 designer biology symposium held at Newcastle University.
