- Designed a composite wheelset for the UCF Formula SAE car- Implemented ASTM/ISO testing procedures for material recertification and verification- Developed a compression molding technique to generate hollow composite structures using removable and dissolvable tooling- Performed FEA using Solidworks and Ansys ACP to minimize mass while maintaining stiffness and strength- Generated an optimized layup schedule for prototyping- Manufactured a prototype wheel in an autoclave- Fabricated an Arduino-controlled pneumatic testing fixture to apply forces for critical and lifecycle testingThe goal of this project was to design and manufacture stiff and lightweight carbon fiber wheels for use in Formula SAE competitions. As the lead test engineer for this project, one of my responsibilities included researching and implementing the appropriate ASTM or ISO standard testing procedure to verify our material properties and to re-certify our expired pre-preg carbon fiber. This included determining the sample dimensions and fixturing along with best practices to achieve repeatable results. To achieve our desired mechanical properties, we designed the wheel to be hollow which required a unique manufacturing method to produce. Our first attempt involved utilizing custom removable cast silicone mandrels and dissolvable 3D printed mandrels to produce the hollow geometry. We learned that this process was too time consuming and required recasting the silicone tooling for each wheel. In total, the first wheel required approximately 100 hours of work to complete, which may be fine for a single wheel, but for a set of eight, is too much. To expedite the manufacturing process, future wheels will use the dissolved 3D printed mandrel in a one stage cure process, which should reduce the number of hours and materials required to manufacture a wheel.

I worked as an order fulfillment associate and sales associate. I pulled orders and organized them on pallets or placed them into the picked bins. I had a high level understanding of lumber and building materials, and I was able to assist customers about their various projects and choose the best product or method for constructing their idea.
