I have 15 years of vibrant experience in the building code industry in various capacities including the development of building codes as a member of the Provincial/ Territorial Policy Advisory Committee for Codes (PTPACC). My specialty is, developing alternative solutions, time-based egress analyses, and smoke modeling.I do presentations for building officials and professionals on the following topics:Familiarization with the Architecture of the Code, Classification of Buildings, Application of Spatial Separation and Exposure Protection, Protection of Combustible Insulation Including Foamed Plastic Insulation, Mezzanines, Interconnected Floor Spaces, and Basics of Smoke Modelling, Egress and Smoke Modelling, Corridors (includes the application of different types of corridors as there is confusion in the industry), Occupant load calculations, Accessibility, and Means of egress and exits (there is fundamental confusion in the industry between, exits, means of egress, access to exits, common path of travel, etc.).The goal of each session is to help the building industry, including building officials to understand, apply, and enforce the fire and life safety provisions of the NBC consistently, quickly, and with confidence.The content of the presentations is based on a guidebook to the NBC that we developed to enhance the understanding of the NBC by Code users. This guidebook is a companion document to the NBC which helps to easily convey concepts to Code users.
