Volunteering at Embrace - a program initiated by the Office of Student Life to foster well-being at SIAS Krea University.Selected as a volunteer after a two-month-long training on mental health practices and counseling skills under SCARF (Schizophrenia Research Foundation, Chennai) and a multistage selection process that assessed the following skills: 1. Dealing with mental health challenges2. Actively building a culture of peer-to-peer support3. Adhering to counseling ethics4. Offering help and support, and not unsolicited or harmful advice5. Fostering self-confidence in peers to become independent decision-makersConducting need-based one-on-one check-ins with students on campus.Attending fortnightly skill-training sessions and PSV group meetings.

As a research assistant/project buddy, I am committed to serving as a point of contact for 200+ students participating in the 'Project Based Learning program. My responsibilities include offering formal guidance and motivation throughout the project duration to ensure that students meet project expectations.Typically, my tasks as a project buddy involve:- Being readily available to address immediate, routine project-related questions.- Utilizing my own experiences to explain how various aspects of the project function, sharing relevant content, and providing support and encouragement to keep students motivated and unblocked as they work to complete the project on schedule.- Guiding students through the project timeline, reminding them of assignments, contest opportunities, deadlines, and more.- Coordinating with school SPOCs (as necessary) to assist students in resolving doubts or technical issues.- If questions become more complex, directing students or school SPOCs to the appropriate contacts within the Kruu team.- Assisting the Kruu team by collecting data and performing any necessary analysis for the specific student groups I'm responsible for.

I was dedicated to mobilizing the youth residing in slum communities and establishing strong, positive relationships with these neighborhoods. I was responsible for ensuring maximum youth enrollment at the Centre, aligning with the program's specific enrollment criteria. Collaboration with various stakeholders, including government officials and other members of the Lighthouse ecosystem, was essential to facilitate timely visits to the Centre. Furthermore, I provided support to fellow team members as needed, ensuring a collective and effective effort in our community engagement initiatives.

As an Alumni Leadership Council (ALC) Member, my role focused on fostering strong connections between alumni and the institution, while driving initiatives that support student success and community engagement. I played a pivotal role in various projects, including:Admissions Support: Assisted in pre-admission activities by guiding students through the application process, ensuring all necessary documentation was submitted, and facilitating parent engagement during key discussions. Encouraged student attendance at sessions and worked closely with them to secure their admission.Life Skills Development: Actively promoted life-skills programs and opportunities to students, encouraging participation and engagement. Provided regular updates to advisers regarding student involvement, and suggested new and relevant life-skill opportunities based on student needs.Parent Engagement: Strengthened parent involvement by coordinating meetings and addressing concerns of parents whose children faced academic or personal challenges. Created awareness among parents about the program and its potential benefits for their children.Scholarship Management: Informed students about available scholarships, encouraged timely applications, and helped them navigate the process of submitting necessary documents. Offered support and reassurance to students during the application process, especially in cases where scholarships were delayed or not awarded.Social Media Engagement: Increased social media awareness among students by guiding them on appropriate platforms to follow, promoting active participation, and driving traffic to our institution’s official social media pages. Supported the execution of social media campaigns to boost engagement.In this volunteer position, I developed leadership, communication, and organizational skills while contributing to the growth and success of both students and alumni.

I interned as a Teacher Assistant at i-Teach SGM school for six months. Here, I had the opportunity to work directly with students from Grades 8-10. I conducted doubt clearing sessions. I facilitated reading hours for students and expanded the library by adding new books. I helped prepare them for inter-school competitions such as MUN and street plays. Finally, I arranged field trips to enable them to put theory learned in classrooms into practice. I also worked with the English and Social Studies teachers on lesson planning, lesson execution, observing classrooms and providing feedback and designing assignments/worksheets. I applied my own experiences, knowledge and perspective while also learning about what it takes to be a teacher. I collaborated with school staff in organizing events like Family Day and participated in all staff meetings. I positively contributed to the development of the school and provided a much-needed source of income to support my studies and my family.

I interned for six weeks with Mindler - India's leading career-coaching organization. Here, I was trained in project management, digital marketing and client outreach. I created social media content and joined groups on Facebook, etc. to promote the Mindler undergraduate scholarship through engaging posts and conversations. I attended webinars on topics like 'Media in the Age of Algorithms' and 'Basics of Digital Marketing' and translated the learnings into notes and action points in my digital marketing and communications plan. Eventually, I was able to reach out to 40+ students across my network and support them in order to benefit from the scholarship opportunity.

The Fellows of the Future track was a training ground for students interns to build knowledge, skills and mindsets that will empower them to lead local movements towards reimagining education. I built my understanding of the problem, learning about the current Indian education landscape through sessions, readings and research. Following that I built skills required to be an effective teacher through sessions and application activities around teacher best practices, pedagogy and holistic learning. Throughout the program, we built our understanding of the 8Cs of leadership and 21st century skills (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, curiosity, courage, consciousness, compassion and creativity) and embodied them as our way of being. Finally, I built my own personal theory of change and presented a project plan (based on Project iQ) to create holistic learning experiences, incorporating peer-to-peer learning for children in the culture of their schools and the community.
