Avirup Bose is a Professor of Competition Law and Policy at the Jindal GlobalLaw School (JGLS). He also serves as a faculty associate to the Jean Monnet Chair at the Jindal Global University on "The E.U. Data Protection Framework." He also serves as an antitrust consultant to the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy. Between 2012 and 2015, Avirup served as an 'Expert Consultant' to the Competition Commission of India, where he advised the Commission in its proceedings, especially under the abuse of dominance provisions of the [Indian] Competition Act, 2002. Avirup held visiting professorship positions at the National University of Juridical Sciences and the UC Davis School of Law.Before joining the Commission, Avirup spent five (5) years working in various areas of competition law and mergers and acquisitions in New York and Mumbai, where his clients included American Airlines, General Electric, L’oreal, Trump Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, Reuters, among others. Avirup is qualified to practice law in India and New York. Avirup regularly writes on various issues of Indian competition law for the 'Business Standard', 'Indian Express', the 'Financial Express', the 'Business Line' and the 'Mint'.Avirup is a graduate of the W.B. National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) (2006) and Harvard Law School (2007), specializing in antitrust law. During his year at Harvard, Avirup was the 2006-2007 J.N. Tata Memorial scholar and a Harvard International Law Journal editorial team member.In 2016, Avirup became the first Indian to be chosen by the American Bar Association and NYU Law School as a "Next Generation Antitrust Scholar". In 2018, Avirup was awarded the prestigious 2018 Thomas Edison Innovation Fellowship award by the Center for the Protection of Intellectual Property (CPIP) at George Mason University School of Law, Virginia, USA.
