About Aviva Musicus

I am a nutrition and food policy scientist with extensive experience in research and advocacy. My goal is to identify, evaluate, and disseminate effective public health policies to equitably improve human and environmental health through dietary change. To translate nutrition science into action, I collaborate with policymakers, institutional leaders, and other change agents to design timely, novel research questions that can directly inform policy to prevent and reduce chronic disease. I also manage advocacy campaigns to improve U.S. food labeling, food chemical safety, sodium and added sugar reduction across the food supply, new food technology regulation, medical device and drug regulation, and scientific integrity across federal institutions.My research is primarily focused in two areas: public health communication strategies, including the design, implementation, and evaluation of food and beverage labeling and marketing policies/regulations; and institutional food policy, including the implementation and evaluation of foodservice nutrition standards and food waste management.
