I managed the Routing Technology team in the Amazon Logistics org. This org was a delivery company built from scratch inside Amazon.com. My team was responsible for planning routes for vehicles that deliver millions of packages to Amazon customers (last mile) in North America and Europe. Our software solved the Vehicle Routing Problem, which is a more general version the Travelling Salesman problem. To make things more complex, we dealt with operational and customer experience constraints such as same day delivery, one-hour delivery time windows, temperature constraints, and heterogeneous packages (groceries and boxes).

I managed the team responsible for customer-facing features for Amazon Publishing, a full publishing house with fifteen imprints. During the year in this role, I built and launched Kindle First (now Amazon First Reads), a program that drives early sales of books from Amazon Publishing authors. This program launched on all Kindle stores and is an Amazon Prime benefit.

I built and managed two teams. The Kindle SDK Tools team was responsible for building tools and services for Kindle e-ink and Kindle Fire (Android) app developers. This team developed simulators, emulators, debugging and profiling tools, and IDEs that were included with the SDKs; tools were used by thousands of 3P developers to build apps for the Kindle app store. The HTML5 Platform team implemented a cross-platform framework for HTML5 components that was used by internal teams to launch several features on e-ink and Android devices. We significantly reduced time-to-market for features on Android (Kindle Fire device and Kindle for Android app) thanks to code re-use from e-ink.

I was one of the first engineers on the Kindle team. Before Kindle launch, my team designed and implemented the core services used by all Kindle devices and apps such as provisioning, authentication, content fulfillment, wireless content push, and wireless data access. These services are still in use today and have scaled to tier-1 status.After Kindle gen 1 launch, I was the lead engineer on the team responsible for systems facilitating wireless purchase and delivery of content for all Kindle devices and apps. Here I architected the system for selling Kindle content internationally. This was the first store on Amazon.com that displayed different store content to customers depending on their countries of residence.
