Advent of low power, long range wireless technologies, advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence and easy availability of computing resources in cloud has opened up wide range of possibilities, most significantly in industrial IoT space. Possibilities are countless. These technologies have potential to reduce cost of operation, reduce downtime, increase equipment lifetime and overall make the operations more efficient and proactive rather than reactive. Among various other challenges, biggest technical challenges in making this happen are two fold: A) undersanding how to leaverage decades of old world knowledge while incorporating promises of new technology; B) combining the best of various inter-disciplinary fields in innovative and creative ways while harnessing the power of modern tools and technology.At VIE Technolgoies, we have taken this challenge upon ourselves, questioning every single detail, while building an end-to-end solution for downtime reduction. Working with a versatile team of engineers, we are determined to make the vision of IIoT a reality.

I'm working for a startup that is custom-building wireless communication networks to meet unique requirements of utility smart grids and other sensor devices in M2M space. With more and more vertical integration starting from a simple modem to communication networks to application server with many application platforms, Ingenu (formerly OnRamp Wireless) has greatly evolved in span of a few years. So have my role as a lead systems engineer and end-to-end systems architect. I understand and appreciate the merits of both bottoms up and top down approaches to system design. Translating customer needs and requirements for a product to scalable and efficient multi-component system design is as much art as engineering.Accepting new responsibilities, sometimes in unchartered territories, developing domain knowledge on the way, I have been instrumental in various efforts ranging from specification of enhanced PHY features such as power control, forward-error correction, to completely enhanced MAC and security and brand new transport/stream as well as application protocols and interfaces for AMI and DA devices (using DNP3). Not only have I had the opportunity to lead system design and performance evaluation for entire system, but work closely with cross functional teams including product/program management and skilled development (both embedded and network software) and system integration teams in ensuring smooth product roll out.

Have worked on many high level designs in last 10 years while ensuring their standardization in various standards bodies.Was single handedly responsible for specifying CDMA 2000 Release C uplink system modeling, designing a scheduling algorithm and proposing a common modeling methodology for evaluating network performance in 3GPP2 TSG-C WG3Played a key role in CDMA 2000 Release D (1xEV-DV) uplink design and performance evaluationWas responsible for the first thorough technical evaluation of WiMAX (802.16e) specification as it was in 2004/5Played primary role in evaluating the benefits of multi-codeword MIMO and SDMA in LTE design and evaluating the voice capacity benefits of MUROS in GSM using SAIC receiversIn addition, I have also worked on coexistence design in TV white space and 802.11ad 60 GHz PHY/MAC design

My PhD research has been in the area of Quantum Communication and Quantum Information Theory.Research paper titled 'On Quantum Network Coding' to appear in Feb'2011 Journal of Mathematical Physics (JMP).
