The Maggie Walker Initiative monitors, evaluates and provides advice and recommendations to the mayor and a Human Services manager concerning the city's poverty reduction and wealth building initiatives and the city's progress towards achieving its poverty reduction objectives.

Officially created by city ordinance in 1993, it had its beginnings in 1975 as a part of the Keep America Beautiful initiative. Today the CCC sponsors programs that encourage citizens to clean, maintain and beautify their environment.Duties include: (a) Achieve visible improvements in the manner in which the local environment is maintained with noticeable reductions in the amount of litter and illegal dumping.(b) Improve the level of public awareness regarding litter and recycling problems.(c) Review existing litter control and dumping ordinances and suggest ways to improve enforcement.(d) Work with all City and State agencies to reduce the amount of illegal dumping by contractors and citizens.

Work with National Director of Civic Engagement, National LCVEF staff, Virginia LCV Executive Director and third party partners, to implement and evaluate advocacy, coalition-building, voter registration and organizing campaigns that advance voting rights and protect against voter suppression. I also am in charge of hiring, training, and strategic oversight of voting rights staff at the state level, and support the efforts to execute programs and build partnerships. This was a Gubernatorial Appointment to the Commission on Youth. The Commission on Youth studies and provides recommendations addressing the needs of and services to the Commonwealth's youth and families.Responsibilities Include:Hosting bipartisan forums for complex issues related to youth and their families;Study and provide recommendations to the General Assembly on matters related to youth and families in the areas of child mental health, comprehensive services, child welfare, kinship care, adoption & foster care, child care, public safety, juvenile justice, substance abuse, education, health, and human services. I Contribute to the General Assembly's ability to make sound policy decision based on well-studied and reasoned recommendations; Assists General Assembly members in developing bills on study issues which reflect consensus among key agencies, organizations and special interests;Analyzes youth-related legislation (proposed or existing) for members.

Interim DirectorTook over leadership of the Statewide political field operation after the departure of our Field Director to another position. It was a 850,000 budget operation that had three campaign offices and employed upwards 60 canvassers and 3 field directors. I also managed a separate 150,000 program that targeted restoration of rights and voter registration in rural communities that included Roanoke, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Danville, Emporia, Franklin and Sussex County.

I am responsible for managing a paid and volunteer voter outreach program with the goal of registering voters in the greater Richmond Metro Area. I currently handle hiring local staff, supervision 25-30 employees , scheduling, coordinating and creating events and staffing functions. I also managed a project with a 100k budget that targeted rural voters in communities of color. In addition I was the day to day supervisor for the community organizing program that advocated or jobs for the ex-offenders and improving police relations in Richmond City. For 3 months I managed the media relations and have dealt with the likes of the Huffington Post, New York Times, Washington Post among many others. Since I began employment with New Virginia Majority we have registered 200,000 voters and help restore the rights to 20,000 Virginians. I also led a lobbying effort of State legislatures in support of Restoration of Rights and immigrant protections.

Managed a C4 partisan political operation in coordination with the VA Coordinated Campaign, For our Futures PAC , NEA and New Virginia Majority in Support of Governor-Elect Ralph Northam and fellow Democrats. I Managed a staff of 20 canvassers and 4 Community Organizers with a volume of 2500 contacts per day of registered voters at our apex. We covered Hampton, Newport News and Norfolk area of Hampton Roads. We did outreach in the 91st, 92nd, 93rd, and 94th House of Delegate Districts. In Total in 28 days we contacted over 43,000 voters via door knocking and made 5,000 phone calls for Democrats.

I recruited, hired, and managed a campaign and volunteer staff of 5 to 20 people. My staff and I will worked to build clout in the community through canvassing neighborhoods to educate citizens about the issues and get them involved our campaigns for the state senate and our support of a progressive agenda. I also work with our partner organizations to use campaign tactics outside of canvassing — such as petition drives, coalition building, letter writing campaigns, phone banks etc.

As Deputy Field Director for a statewide canvass effort in Virginia I am responsible for the recruitment, training, and day-to-day management of canvass teams who will persuade voters and help to deliver victory on Election Day. Data Integrity Management, Community Outreach and Office Management were key responsibilities. In this position we worked with the Virginia Coordinated campaign in support of Statewide Democrats including Governor McAuliffe campaign.

Helped Organize for day of action on January 19th, 2013. Coordinated with civic groups in the greaterRichmond and DC areas, in an effort to push the Presidents Day of Action events nationwide. I also helped with staffing, recruiting and working Inaugural Events including the Inaugural Ball and The Inauguration.

The primary responsibility as an FO is to recruit, manage, and train volunteers to organize their communities and neighborhoods into teams that register, persuade, and motivate voters. My responsibilities include but are not limited to developing a plan to organize their turf based on its unique characteristics; identifying and cultivating volunteer team leaders; planning and executing events and trainings; building relationships with community leaders; and ensuring data integrity.

Lead a team of canvassers in a political campaign against the republican Governor Bob McDonnell and the radical policies of the State Legislature. Our main focus had been in opposition to the Governors handling of the Dulles Rail Project and toll increase. Strategy includes petition drives, phone banking, leaf letting, yard sign distribution and new media outreach.

As a canvass leader I was tasked with a variety of duties. I trained new recruits to prepare them for face to face interaction with voters. I helped in the data integrity process , helped launch canvass and helped prepare walk packets. I also did the job as a normal canvasser which meant contacting voters by going door-to-door, advocating voting early and recruiting volunteers.

Coordinate with campaign team to implement detailed campaign strategies for mobilizing field volunteers. Manage a field leadership team to execute a complex district field plan. Set, meet and exceed benchmarks for voter contact, volunteer recruitment, grassroots engagement and GOTV. Establish a strong professional culture within the field organization focused on accountability, specific goals, innovation and sense of purpose. Collaborate with the Campaign Manager and other senior staff to design and implement effective outreach programs that engage grassroots leaders throughout the district. Coordinate field organizing with the campaign’s fundraising operations. Strategically update and improve the campaign’s field plans to maximize results. Train and coach organizers to improve their professional skills. Communicate the campaign’s field strategy to volunteers and staff through presentations, organizing meetings and training sessions. Innovate new approaches to engage diverse constituencies and execute those approaches effectively. Manage the field program budget and logistics in collaboration with the Campaign Manager and Candidate.

I assisted in in tracking data across the state. I helped to maintain the database and candidate files creating call sheets while gaining exposure to all aspects of supporting successful campaigns. In addition I was required to cover the receptionist’s desk; answering calls, greet volunteers,, coordinating campaign event, creat walksheet enter data into VAN and oversee all mail and deliveries.

I Assisted Staff with fundraising activities including donor research, database maintenance, and event planning. I helped in Social Media outreach including website maintenance, Facebook and Twitter. Various office activities such as scheduling, mailings and answering phones. I also supported for political events, meetings and conference calls. Candidate research, including legislative & issue analysis. Door-to-door canvassing activities. Ensure that established voter contact goals are met by project deadline.
