Favorite quote: "It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed" -Theodore RooseveltMy strengths: empathy, loyalty, and determinationFuture goals: become a healthcare provider | travel throughout EuropeFun fact: studied abroad in Rome, Italy for a semester in college (Fall 2018)My background in healthcare involves being a certified nursing assistant (CNA), working as a medical assistant (MA), and being a medical scribe over the past 6 years. During undergrad at Saint Mary's College, I worked part-time on student breaks as a CNA and MA at a nephrologist office where I gained knowledge and insight on the clinical flow of healthcare. Since October 2020, I have been a medical scribe in an Emergency Department, and was promoted to Lead Scribe in November 2021. Working alongside physicians as a medical scribe during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a huge motivator in my decision to enter the healthcare profession. I have been challenged intellectually by the doctors at my site who actively teach and ask me questions to further my understanding of Emergency Medicine (EM). EM is a fast-paced environment with a high burnout rate. As a medical scribe, my job requires:- charting for the physicians: HPI, ROS, and Physical Exams- reviewing pertinent medical histories related to the patient's chief complaint- placing radiology results in the note- navigating Epic software system

Patient Care Technician (Pct)Fresenius Medical Care North America Apr 2022 - Oct 2024Hobart, Indiana, United StatesDaily engagement in direct patient care through placing patients on dialysis machines to filter their blood and remove waste products the kidney would normally remove. I put lines into patient fistulas, grafts, and central catheters, and also give the patient heparin if ordered by the physician. As a PCT, I monitor patients vitals (BP, temperature, heart rate, etc.) throughout their dialysis treatment, and communicate health information to the patients in a language they can understand. I actively communicate with physicians, nurses, and other patient care technicians regarding updates and other patient care information. As a PCT, I provide compassionate care to our patients by listening and professionally responding to any questions or concerns they may have. I have gained knowledge and training in dialysis treatment of patients with end stage renal disease as well as other comorbidities such as diabetes, heart failure, and hypertension. Seeing the same patients 3 days a week for their treatments, I have grown close bonds with them, but have learned to remain professional. My goal is to provide empathetic care to these patients and create a friendly environment where they can feel comfortable communicating any issues or concerns they may have with me. With gaining a deeper appreciation for patient care, I have also acquired knowledge on how to regulate fluids within the body. -
Lead Medical ScribeVituity Feb 2022 - Apr 2022Munster, Indiana, United StatesI have had the opportunity to see various patient cases that expand across every specialty in medicine. Along the way, I have learned, and am continuously improving my charting ability. Being able to watch various procedures, and observing how physicians handle difficult patient cases has been an unforgettable luxury that will allow me to become an excellent physician. When I started scribing, I was at a time where I had been doubting my abilities due to receiving an MCAT score that was not a representation of me as a student. Spending this past year scribing, and learning how to think like a physician, has provided me with the confidence needed to be a successful doctor. Scribing in the ER pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone and provided me with affirmation that becoming a physician is the correct career path for me. The love for my job motivated me to study and work harder to improve my MCAT score. That hard work and determination paid off. A few weeks after receiving my score, I was promoted to be Chief Scribe at my site within less than a year working for the company. The growth and maturity I gained through being a scribe is tremendous, and will stay with me as I become a physician. -
