General Executive
After experiencing the atmosphere and goals of the CrimSoc Club at the University of Canterbury, I was immediately intrigued and wanted to become more involved in the club's operations and events. When opportunity arose during the mid-year SGM, I put my name forth to become General Executive on the club and was successful. This role is a supporting role for other executive roles, involving picking up a range of tasks in order to alleviate stress and workload from other club executives. This also involves being a part of weekly meetings and giving opinions and ideas in regard to integral club operations.
Vice President
In 2021, I undertook the role of Vice President for 180 Degrees Consulting, Canterbury. 180 Degrees Consulting is the world's largest University-based consultancy, providing advice and consultancy services to the branches' local community. During my time as Vice President, we worked with Bushfarm School, Catapult Employment Services, The Barkery, The Hearing Association, Skillwise and Parents Centre. These organisations are all not-for-profit or social enterprises and align with the values of 180 Degrees Consulting as an organisation. As Vice President of the club, I had many duties requiring constant upkeep and care. I took charge of coordinating all aspects of our marketing for the year and managing the executive team, through booking and running weekly meetings, and ensuring they were able to complete their tasks with ease. I provided continuous support to other executives throughout the program, and was often involved in booking venues, advertising, and organising and running workshops. I also worked closely with the President on many other duties and responsibilities. I was also responsible for all financial matters relating to the club, through financial management and invoicing. I usually ran our workshops and spoke at our events, usually with around 40-50 attendees. My time as Vice President of 180 Degrees Consulting taught me invaluable skills that I have carried into my future career. Through being challenged and significant dedication, I developed my skills in public speaking, team management, interpersonal communication, organisation, a strong work ethic, adaptability, integrity, problem-solving, and more. I found myself to be a more confident and outgoing individual having served in this role. I also met and engaged with various consultants, club executives and industry professionals regularly, gaining lifelong friends and connections.
Volunteer Consultant
There is no shortage of organizations that desire to improve the state of the world. Most organizations have not reached their full potential. Many are constrained. Many have limited resources, limited time, limited staff, and limited money. With 180 Degrees Consulting, I have questioned how we can improve the effectiveness of organizations and how we can help non-profit social enterprises overcome hardship and challenges they are facing. We looked for how we can maximize each organization's social impact, productivity and reach. Through this position, I studied, researched and analysed high quality and innovative solutions for these organizations in order to reach their maximum potential.I worked in a team of 5 members supporting the local organization, Volunteering Canterbury. We researched and discussed as a team how we can promote volunteering positions to the senior population of Canterbury, specifically those staying in assisted living. We proposed and formulated a project which will assist Volunteering Canterbury with reaching their goals and enriching people's lives throughout Canterbury. All services offered by 180 Degrees Consulting are pro-bono and fully volunteer-based. It is an 18-week project, in a team of 5 members working together closely.
Front Of House
At Venues Ōtautahi, I gained a large range of skills that made me well-equipped for transitioning into a more skill-based workplace, such as customer service, reliability, organization and compassion towards others. I gained a great sense of teamwork from Venues Ōtautahi, and it being my first job was a crucial learning experience that was prudent to transitioning into a job more suited to my interests.
