About Aimee Winder Newton

I love working to make a difference in the lives of my fellow humans. From public policy to business development, or from analyzing budgets to media relations, I've been grateful for every opportunity and experience that has enriched my life and strengthened my abilities. My professional experience includes growing a mortgage business, starting a public relations firm, serving in a mayor's cabinet as Taylorsville City's Director of Communications, and working as an executive for an energy company.I am currently a Senior Advisor to Governor Cox and Director of the Office of Families. Our mission is to support Utah families, both traditional and non-traditional, through proactive rather than reactive strategies and policies. This includes promoting what already makes Utah the best place for children and parents to thrive as well as pursuing policies, legislation and innovation that will strengthen families at all economic levels. We aim to ensure government policies are not harming families and that we are coordinating government services to help parents and children succeed.I also serve as a Salt Lake County Council member who pushes for greater budget accountability, works towards additional mental health resources for county residents, and created the first Salt Lake County Intergenerational Poverty Task Force bringing together state, county, city and school district leaders to find solutions to help break the cycle of poverty. My public service experience includes working on the Taylorsville City incorporation effort and various campaigns, as well as serving as a city planning commissioner and school district community council member. I was the first female elected as chair of the Salt Lake County Council and a 2020 candidate for Utah Governor. My bachelor's degree is in Mass Communications from the University of Utah. I'm a mom to four young adults and have been married to my husband, Matt, for 30 years. I love people and have a great reputation for working hard, finding solutions, and getting things done!
