Serve as a frontline engineering manager providing people management and leadership to teams in Chime's Financial Platform group. As a manager, my core responsibility is to support engineers in the delivery of complex financial software products that provide the foundational capabilities for Chime's financial platform. Some of my responsibilities and accomplishments include:Managing the System of Record team responsible for Chime's core financial ledger and banking integrations. This included hiring, organizing, and developing a long term strategy for the team's delivery of a difficult and highly detailed business capability. Managing the Foundations team which was responsible for building and supporting cross-cutting concerns like infrastructure, common libraries, build tools, security and data systems for the various teams working on the Financial Platform. This involved managing a wide variety of stakeholders and leading the team in development across a diverse span of technical domains.Developing a mentorship program for Chime's engineering teams to provide opportunities to our engineers to provide and receive mentorship across several engineering groups. Also participated as a mentor providing mentorship to engineers and managers in other teams.

Early engineer leading development on Bumped's platform for offering stock based rewards. My team was responsible for the systems that power Bumped's core products and business operations. Over my time at Bumped, my responsibilities included:- Build, deploy and operate the APIs (GraphQL/REST and gRPC) to support consumer and partner facing applications- Design, implement and manage systems for securely storing customer data- Develop systems providing the technical integrations with our partners in the financial industry- Develop systems responsible for trading and broker/dealer operations- Build, deploy and operate our platform infrastructure on top of Google Cloud Platform- Develop data ingestion and analytic systems to serve operations, sales, marketing, and product needs- Manage and mentor other Engineers at Bumped mainly in platform engineering, data, and analytics.- Work with product management, design, and sales on planning new features and products- Provide technical leadership on Bumped's Information Security council, write security policy, implement technical and organization controls for information security- Conduct analyses and research on Bumped's datasets to power sales and marketing efforts

Had a brief stint as a lead data engineer working on projects some of Mozilla's core data systems from a colo facility to AWS. Loved the company and the mission, but this wasn't a great role for me.

Joined as a Senior Software Engineer and was later promoted to Principal Engineer. Womply built payment analytics and customer relation tools for small businesses. I worked on a wide variety of projects including:Re-engineered Womply's core data pipeline exposing a richer dataset at a significantly reduced operating cost (it was faster too). Developed a REST service that provided lazy computation of revenue analytics via an in-memory computation engine. Built the prototype for what eventually became Womply's customer data graph.Contributed to Womply's common Java framework including modules for easily implementing REST clients, secure implementations for cryptography, testing frameworks, archetypes for rapid development, a flexible configuration system, dependency injection and other minor features/bugfixes. Worked with devops team to design and implement an AWS security model that ensured protection of critical company assets in services and pipelines. Built Womply's core user management service and migrated data from a legacy Ruby-on-Rails implementation. Developed a turnkey client and authentication/authorization framework that allowed microservices to seamlessly integrate with the new user framework with minimal code change. Implemented numerous security enhancements including a role-based authorization model, granular and flexible permission management, MFA, and a fully-encrypted password management system.Built the REST API for Womply Messenger, a mobile communications application servicing both iOS and Android clients. This work included user and device management, authentication, granular role-based permissions, team management, push-notification and real-time messaging via websocket. Developed the back-end data architecture and data-access REST service for a large, distributed web indexing system on top of kafka, cassandra, zookeeper and containerized worker nodes.

Joined as a Senior Data Engineer and later promoted to Staff Data Engineer. Engineered data ingestion and processing systems for Marin's analytic platform. Responsible for design, development and delivery of distributed applications built on Hadoop and related ecosystem technologies (Presto, Spark, Pig).Developed pipeline for bulk indexing solr documents with Pig and MapReduce. Refactored core Hadoop ETL pipeline to expose a richer feature set. Built a development framework for programmatically generating complex data workflows via a simple configuration system. Automated the provisioning and deployment of Hadoop clusters on Google Compute Engine and collocated hardware. Conducted evaluation, performance testing and feasibility analysis for replacing legacy OLAP system with a distributed SQL system. Provided mentorship to junior engineers and served both engineering and operations organizations as a resource on design, architecture and deployment of distributed systems and applications.

Served as research project director reporting directly to the Senior Scientist at the Department of Defense Personnel and Security Research Center (PERSEREC). Contributed individually as a data scientist, developing and engineering algorithms that could predict behavior from varied and complex data sources in the DoD. Led technical team for research studies assessing the validity of new sources of automated data for personnel security investigations. Oversaw technical evaluation, configuration, procurement and deployment of open-source analytic platform for conducting research projects in the DoD human capital system. Spearheaded projects transitioning data processing pipelines from Oracle PL/SQL and SAS to Hive, Impala and MapReduce. Provided technical consultation for strategic planning issues relating to new technologies in the Personnel and Readiness community. Worked with government partners to develop strategy for programmatic Data Science research and crafted proposals for increased DoD support and funding for Data Science research in the greater DoD community of Monterey, CA.

Served as the primary measurement psychologist and data scientist with a team of analysts and programmers studying mental health, accession, personnel reliability and medical issues in Air Force enlisted personnel. Responsible for developing algorithms and engineering processes for predicting various outcomes from a diverse set of data sources in the Air Force and Department of Defense. Regularly required to brief senior Air Force and DoD officials on research findings and provide on-the-fly analysis and decision support for a variety of data and policy issues.
