About Alyssa Tomlinson
I'm Alyssa Tomlinson (née Wolice), and I am a communications strategist with a background in journalism, media relations, digital content design, and science writing. Originally from central New Jersey (it exists!), I now proudly reside in Baltimore, Maryland.I am passionate about all things communications & the role we, as strategists and content creators, can play in improving representation in science, sports, and countless fields where disparities remain. I feel strongly that communications professionals have a unique ability – as well as a responsibility – to use their talents and resources to bridge these gaps: by producing written, digital, and video content that is accessible to all, and by working to ensure that underrepresented voices are elevated.I earned a B.S. degree in journalism (American University) and an M.S. degree in Health Science (University of Maryland, Baltimore). In addition, I hold graduate certificates in Nonprofit Management & Leadership (University of Maryland, College Park) and Science Communication (University of Maryland, Baltimore). Prior to my work in higher education/STEM communications, I served as a marketing/communications specialist for a D.C.-based trade association and as a production assistant for a D.C.-based sports network.Outside my day-to-day work, I love to cover topics in both science and sports as a freelance writer/blogger. My favorite highlights include writing the cover story for the January 2022 edition of Aerospace America magazine, liaising with Sheryl Sandberg/Lean In national for the #20PercentCounts Equal Pay Day campaign, and covering the Washington Wizards and Washington Nationals (with media credentials). My hobbies/interests include everything Peloton related, baking delicious (but often, messy) cakes, travel, and expanding our family vinyl collection. I am also a proud volunteer with Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Baltimore, and I am a first soprano in the Memorial Episcopal choir in Baltimore.
Listed skills include Blogging, Press Releases, Social Media, Editing, and 13 others.
