Develop Therapy Services was (now Early Start) a private therapy service offering occupational therapy, podiatry, physiotherapy and aqua-physiotherapy in Adelaide directed by senior OTs Alison Copley and Sonya Murchland. I was involved in various roles with DTS including research and project management, integrating evidence-based practice alongside clinical priorities, website support and photography, practice policy development and support, National Disability Insurance Scheme support, resources management support, stakeholder consultation, data management and analysis, and report writing. Two co-authored oral presentations were accepted into the Occupational Therapy Australia Conference WA Division in Perth, June 2016, and the Early Intervention Conference in Melbourne in September 2016. I have also acted as a project officer for our 2015-2016 Department of Education and Child Development Occupational Therapy Project. This service now runs under Early Start Australia as of May 27th, 2022. Due to a business takeover, my position was unfortunately made redundant.

Conferring Dec 31 2019Physical activity contributes to the quality of life and prevention of further health complications for prostate cancer survivors. Unfortunately, most prostate cancer survivors are insufficiently active to obtain health benefits and few physical activity support services are available. This project aims to develop an innovative internet-based physical activity support tool for men with prostate cancer and evaluate it in a randomised controlled trial. If effective, the developed intervention could be easily disseminated across Australia. Thus, this research has great potential to improve public health and will contribute significantly to existing knowledge in psychology, clinical practice, and oncology. The Discipline organises clinical placements in general practice for undergraduate medical students in all of the 6th year and the recruitment of community based teachers for the Medical School, Spencer Gulf Rural Health School and rural and urban general practices. The Discipline has established skills and training sites for undergraduates, interns and postgraduates including general practice registrars, however research is also a key area of this program.I was a research assistant for the Better Management of Weight Project (COMPaRE General Practice Study) under Professor Nigel Stocks of the University of Adelaide. I participated a one-day training at the University of New South Wales (Sydney) in order to learn how to use the PENCAT Clinical Auditing Tool (CAT - IV) to audit clinics as part of the study. In conjunction with the audits I have also interviews practice nurses and GPs on their experience with managing patients with low health literacy who are overweight or obese. Previously, I conducted telephone assistant interviews with those from low health literacy backgrounds for the project. I was also involved as a data entry officer position requiring patient medical data and qualitative text on over 1,000 questionnaires which wereentered into a large database for further analysis under Professor Nigel Stocks, and Dr. Kathryn Powell of the University of Adelaide.

Bachelor of Health Science, First Class Honours (Public Health, Health Promotion).Title:Cultural institutions as a setting for health promotion for children and young people: An Australian focused exploratory studyAbstract:Museums, art galleries, and other cultural institutions offer a setting for promoting the health of children and young people. This thesis examined the extent and nature of current health-related programming (HRP) in Australian cultural institutions. It also explored the barriers and enablers of such programming as identified by museum and art gallery professionals responsible for public and/or educational programming in their institutions. Surveyed museum professionals to understand in more depth what types of programs are offered, feasibility, barriers, and enablers to this type of programming. A cross sectional online survey was sent to 508 professionals in Australian cultural institutions. Responses were received by 95/508 respondents (response rate was 18%). HRP was reported by 26.5% of the sample (22/83). Programs which focused on health knowledge, physical activity, and inclusion programs for children with disability or mental health issues were reported. The major barriers to HRP included a lack of funding and/or expertise, and misalignment with institutional mission. Potential enabling factors included: increased funding, additional staff, and staff training associated to HRP. Of the total sample, 50% were interested in a potential future partnership between the arts, health and education sector. A small, but substantial proportion of Australian cultural institutions, currently offer health-related programs. This demonstrates the feasibility of this setting as an alternative to schools for promoting health of children and young people in order to lift some of the current burden on schools which currently fulfil this function.

University Of South Australia

In association with the University of Adelaide's Freemasons Foundation Centre for Men's Health, I worked with Professor James Dollman at the University of South Australia for 6 weeks looking at rural men's participation in physical activity. A report supported by the Renmark River Council looked at men's perception towards walking groups, furthermore, the project also cover the relationship between health projects and local rural media. The vacation scholarship involved a literature review, and conducting two phone interviews with print media editors from rural areas of South Australia.

I acted as a research assistant for a pilot study regarding the Pro-Start Anaesthetics Evaluation Survey. I undertook a student placement conducted through the University of Adelaide. I participated in meetings and had exposure to an office environment and my task was to create a survey regarding past students who had completed the course. My main supervisor was Monika Marzec (training coordinator) and co-supervised by Peter Clements (director of Medical Education). I created and conducted an online survey for those participants who had completed the course to assess the levels of perceived pre-course and post-course levels of confidence and competence. I analysed the data and generated a report advising SFET of the outcomes and recommendations to improve the course. I also generated a literature review of the current known motivations and attitudes underlying General Practitioners who decide to enter the medical education profession.

The University Of Adelaide'S Decipine Of Rural Health

I was employed as a casual contractor by the LINKIN health project for 5 months to undertake a project until their funding expired in June of 2013. The project was a long literature search for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders sub section of the LINKIN health project regarding treatment and appropriate councilling techniques for youth in sever mental distress and including unresolved grief. My supervisor was Associate Professor Jenny Baker of Aboriginal Health of the University of Adelaide.

Research Assist to conduct a review of Mental Distress Interventions in Rural Communities. As part of the University of Adelaide Vacation Research Scholarship Program, in conjunction with the Port Lincoln LINKIN Health Study, I completed a literature review relating to mental distress interventions for rural Australian communities. The project was supervised by Dr. Kathryn Powell, Dr. Elizabeth Hoon and Dr. Jonathan Newbury, and the report provides an assessment of relevant interventions in the Australian literature which addresses mental distress in rural communities. This report formed an important foundation to which base future interventions for Port Lincoln.
