In my nearly five years of classroom teaching experience I discovered my passion for creative instructional design. While I have taught diverse students, children and adults, most of my experience was devoted to teaching elementary orchestra, which requires development of highly engaging teaching and learning approaches. Music students often come to the classroom with a wide range of existing talents and experience and must advance personally and as a member of a team. Good instructional design provides flexibility to meet students where they are as individuals and as a member of a group organized around shared goals. I take pride in my work and enjoy seeing students invested in a new learning experience. I love to plan instruction and deliver it in a way that encourages this kind of learning.In addition to planning my own instruction, I have also designed curriculum in cooperation with other subject matter experts for use by one of the largest school systems in the United States. I am especially proud of my contributions developing curriculum for hundreds of other music teachers for virtual learning during the school shutdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time I led a team to innovate new ways of teaching music through online learning while still meeting specific standards and expectations for quality education. I published multiple lessons covering the use of digital audio workstations, video editing software, and learning management systems in creating virtual orchestras. This experience advanced my organizational and communications skills while letting me call upon so many of my interests all at once like the use of technology in learning, creative instructional design, and not least of all -- music. Most recently, I have been one of a team of information technology experts who develop websites and applications for our 2000+ organization users. I am primarily responsible for developing, delivering, and assessing the training needs of those users. In this position, I have been able to expand my enthusiasm for learning technology and develop further related technical skills.
