Tulaa is a tech start-up that builds and deploys technology to level the playing field for agricultural buyers and sellers, by lowering the cost and risk of transacting with smallholder farmers across Africa. Through Tulaa’s platform farmers can access financial services, discounted agricultural inputs, information and markets for their crops, all via a feature phone. Tulaa was incubated inside of Esoko, an award-winning tech company that pioneered the use of mobile technology to deliver vital information to smallholder farmers. I was part of the three-person management team that led the spin-off from Esoko and the establishment of the new business in Kenya, Ghana and Mauritius. Finance• Led the spin-off process from Esoko, including all key workstreams such as structuring of the transaction, new company establishment, legal due diligence and asset allocation • Led execution of the Series-Seed equity round, including investor selection and meetings, due diligence process, and coordination of legal documentation and closing• Built Tulaa’s internal financial and operating models, and made strategic recommendations to the leadership team and BoD based on it Accounting• Oversaw set-up and implementation of new accounting software for the new Tulaa entities• Established strong internal finance processes, in line with appropriate audit methodologies• Reviewed monthly and quarterly reporting processes and ensured timely and accurate information was presented to the CEO and BoD Operations• Responsible for Talent & HR function, leading a team of 3 in setting up a range of processes covering recruitment, performance management, and company culture Strategy• Modelled and tested unit economics of different go-to-market strategies and determined which strategies to further test and implement• Analysed Ghana and Kenya pilot data from a quantitative and qualitative perspective, and made recommendations to the board based on it
