I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Cognitive Neuroscience from Washington University in St. Louis, where I was involved in various research projects, student organizations, and mentoring programs. My honors thesis focused on exploring the behavioral and mechanistic dynamics of fentanyl withdrawal, a lethal drug that is responsible for countless overdoses nationwide. I presented my findings at multiple conferences and symposiums, and I have received awards for academic excellence and community service. My passion for community service and global health led me to join GlobeMed at WashU, where I have held various leadership roles, including Co-President and Director of Community Building. I have also participated in a summer internship with Uganda Development & Health Associates, where I learned about the challenges and opportunities of grassroots health initiatives. Currently, I am a Network Coordinator at GlobeMed, a global health organization that partners with grassroots groups to improve the health and well-being of marginalized communities. In this role, I support logistics, administrative support, connection, learning, and mentorship for 25+ GlobeMed chapters at universities across the nation. I am also a certified patient care technician/associate/nurse technician (CPCT/CPCA/CNT) with experience working at St. Louis Children's Hospital, where I provided quality care and assistance to patients, nurses, and families.Through my work and studies, I have developed skills in community engagement, operations management, and project management. I am passionate about community, healthcare, fitness, poetry, history, psychology and neuroscience.

Undergraduate Student ResearcherWashington University School Of Medicine In St. Louis May 2020 - Jun 2023St Louis, Missouri, United StatesDr. Ream Al-Hasani and Dr. Marwa Mikati with the UHSP WUSM Center for Clinical Pharmacology, through Washington University's uSTAR Summer Scholars Program (2020), Missouri Louis Stokes Alliance for Minorities Participation (MO-LSAMP) Research Program (2020-2021), the Biology Student Research Fellowship (BioSURF, Summer of 2022) and currently, the Children's Diversity Institute MARC-CDI Research Program (2021-2023). I've had the pleasure of sharing my research at three Washington University Undergraduate Research Symposiums, and at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) Anaheim, California in November 2022. Briefly, the opioid addiction crisis has gone overlooked for several years across the US, more specifically from powerful synthetic opioids like fentanyl accounting for a large contributor to opioid deaths. Opioid withdrawal is associated with severe somatic symptoms and profound negative affective states. This is thought to drive relapse to relieve these symptoms and in turn, increase the likelihood of overdose deaths. Our understanding of neural mechanisms modulating fentanyl withdrawal remains limited and this is further exacerbated by the lack of an unbiased and reproducible way to quantify withdrawal behavior in rodent models. Since the summer of 2020, my project has focused on exploring the behavioral and mechanistic dynamics of fentanyl withdrawal, as my senior honors thesis is titled. -
