About Ayanava Majumdar

I am the Assistant Director for Grant and Program Development at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) that consists of Alabama A&M and Auburn University. I am based at Auburn University, Alabama, working statewide with a large number of internal (employees) and external clientele. My current responsibilities include Extension grant planning, proposal development, program implementation, and program monitoring and evaluation planning. Projects are done in collaboration with various colleges, departments and grant offices across AAMU and AU campuses. Since 2008, I have served as Extension Entomologist for the Alabama Vegetable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program at Auburn University (formerly worked on peanut IPM program for 13 years). I am also the State Coordinator for the USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (https://www.southernsare.org/SARE-in-Your-State/Alabama) assisting various faculty in organic research and demonstration projects. I established the Alabama Vegetable IPM, the Alabama Beginning Farmer Programs (www.alabamabeginningfarmer.com), and Operation Grow for Beginning Veteran Farmers (www.Operation-Grow.com) with funding from national, state, community development, and foundation grants. Since 2009, I have secured about $11 million in funding through 54+ competitive and 33+ capacity building grants along with strong industry funding for bioinsecticide development that are registered and available to farmers in Alabama and across the Southeast. I have published 24 referred papers, 70+ scientific abstracts, and over 300 Extension articles, slide charts, digital and social media articles, Farming Basics Mobile App, and program promotional materials over his career with total circulation exceeding 257,828. Through 758 Extension presentations, I have reached nearly 28,000 direct and 88,000 indirect participants (2008-2023). As an Extension Team Leader for commercial horticulture programs for 13 years, I developed a multidisciplinary team of 30+ Regional Extension Agents, County Extension Coordinators, and Extension Specialists to support the horticulture industry, partnering closely with producer organizations, nonprofit agencies, and community leaders (participatory programming model). I stepped down from this leadership role in February 2024 to focus on my new role in ACES Administration.It has been a joy to serve a variety of clientele and audience over the years while focusing on capacity building.
